CompassSport Cup Final

With the prospect of Storm Ashley arriving from the west, we set off to cross to the wrong side of the Pennines to take part in the CompassSport Cup Final  which is an inter club orienteering competition for those clubs which have come through the qualifying rounds successfully.

It was a half hour walk to Assembly so we donned all our layers and set off up the hill.  I took a few photos before it was time for me to go to the start and that's when the eye of the storm moved away and the horizontal rain arrived.  I was much too early for my start and tried to shelter under a tree bereft of its leaves so I was already wet when it was the time for off.

The first half of the course went reasonably well, but then I turned into the wind to come back along the hillside and my glasses steamed over.  Not very helpful when trying to navigate into a strong wind and rain.  I made an error which cost me too long and then slipped and slid downhill towards the stream.  My course recrossed said stream at different points several times and involved much mud which attached itself to my face, glasses and map!  I think you've guessed by now that I didn't do very well.

We had to hang around to take photos at the prize giving so I made use of the coffee van and was pleased to see the sun come out.

My blip is of GG running towards the final control.  It looks like he found the mud too.
