Last in the Line
Ruth's Sweet Peas were late planted and slow to establish but they've lasted long into autumn. This could be the last fresh flower though, caught in the afternoon sunshine as I returned from my morning adventure.
It was a fairly early start that saw me down in Gloucester at 10am to set up before a talk to the British Iris Society West Midlands Group who are celebrating their fiftieth year in 2024. The autumn event involves a talk and a buffet lunch which was delicious ... an added bonus :-) As Crocuses are members of Iridaceae and indeed the Crocus Group that I am involved with started as an offshoot of the BIS, my subject was apt. I had tweaked the talk to include some of the irises that I have grown over the years and the it was very well received. There's a possibility of my being asked to give a talk at a National Society event at Wisley in the future. As they were great company and bought a lot of my pottery and cards, it was a good morning all round.
Ruth and I are now in London, at my Mum's for a few days. On returning to Birmingham I unpacked my talk gubbins and repacked the car with everything man, daughter, dog and cat need for a trip. Thankfully there was time for a little snooze before the two hour drive this evening. Hopefully a couple of quieter days ahead!
