The Main Event

For reasons various (Shetland/Mallorca) I haven’t attended a football game at Tynecastle since the opening game of the season when our nil-nil draw with Rangers promised great things. Here we are eleven weeks later at the bottom of the league! The big question - would my return steady the buffs? And of secondary interest, would a change of manager make any difference?
And here he is: Neil Critchley, receiving the plaudits after masterminding his side’s progress to a 4-0 win over an admittedly very poor St Mirren. Lordy how difficult it is not to drop into footballspeakcliche. And not just speak, no, to actually think that way too. One game at a time!
Anyway, that was a very welcome win with great performances from Spittal and Boateng. Omonia Nicosia "may prove a sterner test” on Thursday.
So, happy jambos, we left the stadium under blue skies and then, glory be, news came over the airwaves. A ninety-ninth winner at Tannadice for the home team. We’re no longer bottom!!
And even better, guess who is? Hahaha. The natural order restored.
