I went to the cathedral
Because they are displaying Gaia - an installation by Luke Jerram - a gigantic sphere representing the planet earth, which rotates slowly in the aisle. I think it’s made using satellite photos. It’s rather lovely - but I think it’s probably been seen in various cathedrals around the country by now. Sadly it was not permitted to take a photo, and being a rule following kind of person, I didn’t. A lovely surprise - the cathedral choir were singing evensong, which sounded beautiful. So instead of Gaia, here is the cathedral, with College Green in front. The sun was in exactly the right place to light up the trees. It was nice to see a group of young women in headscarves playing frisbee and laughing lots. After this I went down to the Watershed cinema, & met my friend G in the cafe. We saw a film about the painter Wilhelmina Barns-Graham. I very much like her paintings - and that she was based in either St Ives or Stromness for much of her life made it even more interesting to me.
