Tanera Mor
Today's forecast was dreadful so we waited til we poked our noses out the door before making a decision. As we ambled along, the Summer Queen pulled out of her mooring and into the harbour...well that sounds fun - a cruise from Ullapool to the Summer Isles. 4 hours and intermittent blue sky.
Decision made. We boarded at 10am and I loved every single minute.
When I have stayed on Tanera Mor before, I used the dread the invasion that was the Summer Queen with all its silly tourists and their idle holiday chat!!! Yes I did!
Well now I was one of them and I take it all back!
The cruise was fantastic with a truly excellent tour guide who had amazing stories of local people, their lives, the land, the geology and the wonderful wildlife.
My new camera came up trumps and I have some fab shots of seals and many birds.
My new binoculars from the wee school were passed round plenty and I also had my big bins to search the skies for sea eagles.
Climbing back onto Tanera after two years was amazing - I led my friends right to the top to see the view and tested out the panoramic setting on the camera on the way back down. Left to right is the edge of Quinag, Suilven, Cul Mhor in the shadow of the majestic Stac Pollaidh, Achiltibuie on the other coastline, Coigach with Ben More Coigach and on down to the Torridons. In the foreground is the wee house I stayed in!!
A brilliant cruise and I was so energised when returning to Ullapool.
We hopped into the car and sped off to see Corrieshalloch Gorge some 10 miles south of Ullapool. Just awesome! Second highest waterfalls in UK - with Eas a' Chual Aluinn being tops. Both are in Sutherland. Corrieshalloch was intense as we had to cross an up market rope bridge right over the falls. There was a viewing platform which freaked me out but I got some great shots of the falls from there!
An evening of fun and laughs with Hamish Roberts and the Slim Panatellas - yep - House of the Rising Sun. Fab! Fish dinner at the Argyll Hotel and home for another deep and happy sleep!
Off to The Deen tomorrow for pre graduation fun and reunions!!
