The Jacobite
Today's the day . . . . . . . . . . to catch a train
We've had a wonderful day today - thanks to the generous gift from the family that they gave us this time last year, when we were celebrating our Golden Wedding Anniversary.
We've spent most of the day in the comfort of one of the 1st Class carriages pulled by the LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No 45407 steam locomotive - commonly known as The Lancashire Fusilier. Today it was in a different role, namely that of The Jacobite - travelling the 41-mile route between Fort William and Mallaig - including passing over the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct (of Harry Potter fame) in both directions. Crowds of spectators turn out to photograph this spectacle (see extra) making you an instant celebrity.
And you get to spend time in the colourful and bustling little port of Mallaig (see other extra) where there are several places offering a delicious seafood or other kinds of lunch.
It's been quite a.day - and an absolutely brilliant present to have had . . . . . . . !
