Ent moot

This was taken in glorious light on Tuesday afternoon when I went for a walk up through the Park. Is it my imagination, or are beeches colouring up particularly brightly this Autumn? This little group of young and leggy beeches put me in mind of a Tolkien ent moot. Or was that too hasty a conclusion?

While walking in the Park this last few days, I’ve been hearing the high pitched contact calls of redwings, and soon we shall be hearing fieldfares too. Two days previously as I was at the top of the hill, a raven flew over my head cronking away, something that would have been quite unremarkable in Arnside, but here only the third time I’ve seen one in the time we’ve lived here.
