Forfar Witches

TT went off to work on his own this morning, a I am off this week.  I had intended driving up to visit my mum and dad last night, but the weather was against me.  It was very windy overnight, so probably just as well I didn’t go.  I finished packing this morning, then headed out to pick up a prescription, which provided easier said than  done.  I first of all had to track it down, then they claimed they had only just received it, so I had to come back.  I wandered down to the river and round about the town, then back to the pharmacy, picked up the prescription and headed off up the road.  It was a nice day, though still a bit windy – nothing like it was overnight though.  It wasn’t a fast journey.  The Edinburgh by pass was pretty slow moving and then I was stuck in a massive queue between Perth and Dundee.  I eventually made it to my destination just in time for lunch.

I offered to take my mum and dad out this afternoon.  My dad suggested we go for a walk around Forfar Loch,, which is a nice easy flat walk for them.  I was delighted to spot two red squirrels on the walk, and various birds on the lock, including many swans and geese.  Although my dad suggested the walk, he struggled a bit.  His knees are not what they used to be, so he was pretty slow, but at least he managed to keep going. He said it was probably the slowest walk I had ever been on – it probably was – but he went on to say, it was probably the slowest walk he has ever done.

My mum wanted to pop to the supermarket, so we stopped there on the way home.  Once home, they put their feet up and recuperated with a pot of tea, and I went for a walk around the back road near where they live, and was delighted to spot a third red squirrel of the day.    We had a quick and easy tea, then pottered and generally had a quiet evening.  I think I wore them out!

This is the memorial to the Forfar witches – with the  twenty two dots representing each of the women who were killed for the “abominable cryme of witchcraft.”   There is more information here. By coincidence I finished reading The last Witch of Scotland tonight.   I also spotted some new hazel catkins this afternoon - in the extra.
