Hazel, Lady Lavery

Although I am leave this week, I made myself get up and go for my usual pre-work walk this morning.  I then had time for breakfast, before heading to the hospital for what I hoped would be my last appointment.  Alas, it wasn’t to be.  I have another appointment next Friday – and I relay hope that it will be the last one and they will sign me off.  They are happy with things, but want to see it again as they are worried about further infection.

I then got myself organised and caught the bus into Edinburgh.  It was a lovely day and I went to see the Sir John Lavery exhibition – An Irish Impressionist, Lavery on Location -  at the Royal Scottish Academy.  It finishes this weekend, so just made it.  I really enjoyed it, and remembered that around twenty eight years ago ( I think) we went to a Lavery exhibition (I think) in Dublin.  We definitely went to a talk about Hazel, Lady Lavery and somewhere I have a book of the same name, which I must try and find.  I would have bought the book of the current exhibition, but they were sold out.

When I emerged from the exhibition I had a look in a couple of shops, but bought nothing apart from something for my lunch.  I wasn’t in the mood to shop, so I caught a bus home and had a late lunch.  I then did a few chores and went for a walk in the afternoon sunshine.  I was sorting out tea when BB appeared home for all of about ten minutes before going to rugby training.  He came to pick up a parcel and to grab some food, which meant I had to give him a lift down to rugby.

TT was home when I got back.  After tea I pottered and watched some TV – I started watching A Very Royal Scandal.

Sir John Lavery was a war artist during the first world war. This is Hazel, Lady Lavery watching an aerial battle over London in 1917, from the artist’s studio window
