Deep inside the Clocaenog Forest
SATURDAY
Unusually, I slept for over seven hours not waking until 07:50. This limited my choice of Parkrun and I settled for the one at Holywell some ten miles away. According to Strava I finished the run in 28:09 however my official time was considerably slower at 28:32 and I was in 16th place.
At lunchtime, I drove over to Ruthin Cattle Market which was being used as the mid-way service area for the Cambrian Rally. I was thrilled to see the 78-year old rallying legend Stig Blomqvist with co-driver Paul Morris in a specially prepared 1964 Mini Cooper S - car number 201 (see extras - note the mini is LHD so Stig is on the right).
I then drove over and parked on the edge of Clocaenog Forest and walked 2.5 km along gravel paths deep into the forest where a couple of the afternoon's special stages were being held.
In the late 1970's one of our neighbours used to compete in the RAC rally and I used to travel the length and breadth of the country to watch - sometimes with my Dad. It was interesting to see that a lot of classic rally cars from the 70s and 80s - Escorts, Minis and even a rear-engined Skoda Estelle - competing in today's events.
