A very young buck
I've seen several photos online this last week of magnificent red deer stags sporting bracken headdresses to attract the ladies. Videos show them baying. It seemed like a good idea to go take a look. It was the first time I'd been to Bradgate Park since my hospitalisation last year.
Other than a sight of both fallow and red deer up on the hill, I was not successful, except for this chap who is clearly very young. Two small antlers are sprouting out of his head but it will be a very long time before he can take up a challenge. In the background you see the ruins of the house where Lady Jane Grey grew up. The nine day queen of England who was the victim of her father's and father in law's ambitions. She paid for them with her head.
I rode quite happily on the little scooter but Len found it all much too far to walk, so having given up on the possibility of seeing more deer, we turned round and went back to Newtown Linford where the café was very welcoming and even had GF fruit scones and chocolate cake.
Returning home, I got Len to stop at the new Aldi. It's very spacious. I was pleased to be able to buy plenty of vegetables to eat with some chicken.
