Storyteller
A vital part of Native American Pueblo culture, oral storytelling is a way to pass down history, values and beliefs through generations. Stories are often told by elders around a gathering of the tribe, and can include songs, chants and prayers. Native American cultural beliefs include living in harmony with nature, respecting all living things, valuing community over the individual, and seeing a deep connection between humans and the land, often believing that all things possess a spirit, with a strong focus on maintaining balance and reciprocity within the natural world.
My Storyteller was made by a Navajo potter. He has a traditional Navajo hairdo, bound with red yarn. He holds children who are listening to his stories and learning about their culture which they will pass down via their own chosen storytellers, each generation passing the story down and adding to it as events happening in each generation affect the tribe.
I believe this is some kind of milestone entry for me and I think it is appropriate as we Blippers are all storytellers, passing down our own personal stories to our own families as well as our Blipfoto one. I treasure the fact that we are such a diverse community yet we maintain this place with respect for each other's stories and traditions.
Thank you as always to all the people who volunteer behind the scenes to keep us up and running. By allowing this site to thrive and grow, you are the ultimate storytellers!
Thanks also to Freespiral and her inspired challenges for the month of October.
