Fieldfares galore
The only time I feel dissatisfied with my phone camera is when I need to get close, when I need a telephoto lens. Today's blip is an example of this.
The bare trees were full of fieldfares, sitting high in the tree and then swooping down to the rowan tree to gorge themselves on berries before returning to their higher perch. Then I noticed they were all over the field too, hopping around eating whatever is available on the ground. Not a surprise considering their name... There must have been well over a hundred around. When you stood still and listened you could hear them chatting continuously.
This was the best phone picture I could manage. With a nice 200mm lens I could have some nice images from the speckled birds among the red berries, as seen through my binoculars.
Another breed of chatter made me turn around to the other end of the garden, where a family(?) of about 7 magpies was quartering the ground, also eating whatever they found there. The two species seemed to have divided up the turf, each keeping to their own area.
Otherwise it was a slow day as we were both feeling the effects of the flu + Covid vaccinations yesterday.
Maybe it's time for a new camera?
