Recycling the olive trees
Another rather grey day, but I hoped it was going to turn out brighter than has been the case recently. Got on with Photo Club stuff this morning. We have a meeting this evening with the results of our 'Close-up' competition, and it's the hand-in for our 'Open Prints' competition. I had to make sure that I'd got everything sorted out.
An emergency Blip today, or at least a picture I took in case I didn't find anything else. I'm not the sort of person who takes pictures of his breakfast and posts them on social media - no honestly! I just thought that I would photograph my porridge, in my wooden bowl with wooden spoon on the wooden kitchen table. Many years ago I led a garden tour to Andalusia and while in Ronda investigating a shop selling olive wood products I bumped into a couple on the tour who offered to buy me something of my choosing as a thank you. There were many amazing articles, but I felt I had to chooses something that wasn’t too expensive, so I chose this bowl. I liked it as it wasn’t a perfect lathe-turned bowl, but a hand carved one, rather higgledy-piggledy.
On another occasion, on holiday with a friend in Crete, we found a similar shop and I bought a set of cutlery, if you can call it cutlery when it’s made of made of olive wood! I also have other plates and bowls - I love them!
This afternoon I went to a meeting of the u3a Science Group in the Corran Halls. This time it was about the Ig Noble prize winners - I’d never heard of this before! Some interesting projects, some possibly useful, others seemingly pointless, such as research to see if people’s hair whorled in a different direction in the northern and southern hemispheres! Very odd!
