Living my dream

It has been an unusual birthday.

First the dreadful news from the USA, about which I am dumbstruck still.

Then I had been inveigled into supervising a digital exam, even though my lifelong rule has been no work on my birthday. Our lovely exam manager made up for it somewhat by surprising me with an utterly delicious homemade spiced apple cake.

The exam was followed by a covid booster (Thursday being the only day I can get one in town these days).

Finally it was time to have a wee celebration with A and J who had made a picnic which should have been consumed on the banks of the Waiareka Creek, but the haar had rolled in from the sea. We sensibly and comfortably ate indoors.

Parcels were opened once I got home and there is a blue ocean theme going on.

The dish in the foreground was made by my gifted niece who has recently started a ceramics evening class. I am particularly honoured to have one of her pieces. What treasure.

The extra is of the haar far inland during our early morning walk.
