Therapeutic Distraction
It’s been an emotionally challenging week with Mum. Until relatively recently, a vibrant, lively presence, seeing her so much diminished is hard. We are in an ever changing no man’s land between holding on and letting go. Her comfort and happiness as she approaches the end of her life, whenever that may be, is what we are invested in.
Today Mums been tired. Weak physically and less with it. The strain of the three outings plus the possible impact of antibiotics must be part of the reason but it’s a story of slow decline. Ruth has spent time entertaining her with little things while I have been here and there fire fighting assorted problems. After lunch all of us slept.
This evening I was needed to assist the carer in helping mum get up from her chair to go to bed. It’s not something that usually needs two people. Once mum was settled, Ruth, Louise, a niece who lodges upstairs here, and I ate together, the girls then chatting and crocheting together while I did a last top-up shop for mum before we leave tomorrow. I have an email to write to update the care agency on the week’s developments, then hopefully a good sleep before tomorrow’s long journey home.
I brought some clay with me. A healthy distraction when time has allowed.
Yesterday’s blip was a photo of Gramps’s taken inside airship R33. Either side of the walkway in the centre are petrol tanks while the crews beds and bedrolls are to left and right. The whole shot is just a small fraction of the inside of the huge airship body. A kind commenter has left a link to wiki entry which has lots of interesting information about R33 plus more photos.
