Gramps
For now, I'll leave it to you to work out where this old picture might have been taken around a century ago. I hope you'll also forgive a 'non regulation' blip image. It's very much part of the story in my life currently though.
My Grandpa, Mum's Dad, lived to be almost 98 years old and led a full and fascinating life. Born in Sheringham in 1895, he worked for the Post Office before enlisting in 1915. During the first war he flew on reconnaissance missions over the channel as a radio operator and photographer in the Royal Naval Air Service. After the war, he continued in the same kind of role working in aviation, mostly land based, retiring from the Air Ministry in 1962, when I was just one year old. I remember him fondly as a warm hearted man who would pick me up as a little boy and swing me round .... until suddenly I was taller than him. Mum's slowly catching him up in age ... but she's doing everything much more slowly these days.
Another outing with Mum this morning. Blood tests at 11am then at 12 an ECG was booked in. Whilst waiting for this I went to the pharmacy to try and establish if Mum has had her flu jab. The surgery said no but Mum thought yes. Think the answer is no! While I was missing in action, Mum was called in for her ECG half an hour early so Ruth accompanied her. Ruth and Jamie have been brilliant helping with Mum, I am a proud dad :-)
Another GP appointment was booked for 330pm to discuss the results but after lunch, one look onto Mum's eyes when I talked about going out again told me that it was not a good idea. I talked to the surgery and a phone appointment was arranged instead. The results were normal but the appointment proved useful in discussing a few things we didn't have time for yesterday and delivered some anti-sickness medication to try.
A quiet end to the day, although busy until late evening as cooking Ruth and I tea and household chores all needed doing. I have decided to stay an extra day so that we can - hopefully - have a quiet, sociable day with Mum before we leave.
