Barcelona with a bit of Gaudi

A trip to Barcelona would not be complete without a bit of Gaudi. We managed to find a bit of modernism in a surprising place. A weird gateway that was originally a farm wall. Now a grand entrance to a housing estate behind - the Portal Miralles. As we walked past, I was struck by all the people taking selfies with the statue of Gaudi. One of those "insta" habits.

This was on our way back from a wander up to Sarria and back, via a couple of coffees in Placa de la Concordia and then up in Sarria, lunch in Bocconi (where we accidentally met Bb and Dd in 2022, but this time we were inside), before beer back in Concordia. We slumped in the hotel reception for a while before heading to the airport, where we benefited from an on time departure, an early arrival and a mercifully quiet flight. It was tedious getting through passport control in Edinburgh Airport and also securing a taxi, although it's a bit easier now City Cabs have been allowed back into the ground floor of the multistorey car park. All in all, we were back in the flat and in bed by midnight. Given how cold it has gone, I was surprised that the flat was still reasonably warm. On the flight home, and in bed afterwards as I tried to wind down, I finished One Day on the kindle. Having ignored him for years and indeed having not even heard of One Day until I witnessed the dressing of Old College quad for the opening scenes of the Netflix series which debuted earlier this year, I've now read two of David Nicholls' novels this year. But romcom is definitely not my genre.

A hasty trip to Barcelona, but overall lovely to see some sunshine and enjoy a lengthy Saturday urban wander before flying home.
