The Lonely Tree
We decided to venture into mountain country this morning as we considered the roads should be fairly clear despite some more snow falling overnight. Disappointment came in other ways, we went first to Penmachno where the Roman bridge. It's a small bridge (nothing to do with Romans) that stands over a narrow river, it's draped with trailing plants and makes a good image. When we got there we found that the path had been blocked off with perygl (danger) signs. There's a view from the road but it's a very busy composition and nothing like the view from the other side. Ah well!
We went on to Swallow Falls near Betws y Coed and once parked up we walked to the entrance and that was closed for maintenance. Oh dear, we thought. I hope that's not going to be the pattern for today. We went back into Betws y Coed and got a cup of coffee.
We drove on through the Llanberis Pass which looked very pretty with the snow-capped mountains on either side we stopped towards the bottom and took a few pictures, one of which I've added as an extra and carried on to Llyn Padern and the Lonely Tree and we were fortunate to find the lake very calm and with some nice light. After that we stopped off at the top of Dinorwic Quarry and had a brief walk around there before heading back to our base.
