been a while since i've had one of these. flew to philadelphia today - then a two hour drive north and west.

today marks my first experience with the toyota prius, or any hybrid vehicle for that matter. i've had colleagues luck out before and get this as the rental, and they warned me of how difficult it was to figure out how to get the thing moving. though i'll never tell them this, it wasn't really that bad - there's a power button, a park button, and a transmission tiptronic switch device (automatic, ever easier), so i'm not sure where the confusion was.

of course, i did second guess myself when first engaging motion. the moment the car began to move, there was a horrible screech sound on the right hand side. i immediately stopped, thinking "crap, i've broke the thing already". i look right, however, and it turns out there was a guy next to me, fiddling with something in his rental, when his backside opened his door wide as possible (subsequently knocking against my car), just at the same time i was pulling away. i told the gal at the security stand of the incident, and she said don't worry, it won't show up on the damage report upon return. i didn't see her write anything down, however, so i'm wondering how good her word really is. oh well, just have to see what happens now.
