Today's the day . . . . . . . . . . . to miss the best bit

Now that the days are getting ever shorter, I keep forgetting that unless I get out there well before three o'clock, there will be no light for taking photos. 

It was an absolutely lovely morning here too - very cold and frosty - but lots of sunshine.  That's when I should have gone for a walk and captured the best of the light.  But, there we are, there were domestic chores to do - and before I knew what was happening, we were half way through the afternoon. 

So this is the best I can offer you.  An enormous unidentified fungus, growing on a tree that loomed out of the twilight at me.  I'm hoping that one of you experts out there will know right away what variety it is . . . . . . . . ?!
