Another day of
high cloud and cooler days, then
warming once again

I was up and in the grocery store just after 6. I do appreciate that quieter time to bustle through with my shopping without crowds. I was home again at 7, then off with my camera on Hwy 95.

I always love this route through the agricultural fields. Every day but Sunday there is a lot of activity here from sunrise to sundown.

Repurposed school buses collect the Mexican workers on the other side of the border early in the morning. They are transported to the fields here. Each bus has a trailer behind it with portable toilets and wash stations. Workers arrive prepared for all weather. It's a long day in the field, then they are driven back across the border at the end of the day.

In the middle of some fields there will be a nice home surrounded by trees. It looks like a little oasis. The house is set back from the highway for privacy and quiet.

Yuma has an extensive system of canals providing water for irrigation. The Colorado River supplies 180,000 acres of farmland. Agriculture is the main industry. In winter, these fields produce lettuce, baby greens, cauliflower, broccoli, herbs, root vegetables and kale. Yuma is known as the "Winter Lettuce Capital of the World". Agriculture here is more than a $4 billion industry each year.

I'm in today and will spend it with my sewing machine. Let the music play!
