St Andrew’s Day

What’s with this mad weather? Two days ago we had -4° and a hard frost, today we have 13 ° with people drinking coffee at outside tables. In another 2 days we expect another onslaught of Arctic winds but by the end of the week it will be warmer again. It’s all very discombobulating.

What was also discombobulating was the odd hat wearing crocodile overlooking yet another of my donations to the local charity shop this  morning. Now that I have the inclination to rid myself of unwanted clutter, I’m really going for it with a vengeance.  I hope I’m not overdoing the chucking out- it would be hilarious if I had to buy anything back.

I attended Jane Godley’s funeral this morning and also Alec Salmond’s Memorial Service in St Giles,  both remotely on catch up. The first service was inclusive and joyful with witty words from daughter Ashley and the officiating priest to a first come first served  eclectic congregation. The second one more solemn,  to an invited congregation of the great and the good of Scotland as befitted  an erstwhile First Minister and MP. I know which one appealed to me more.

St Andrew’s day draws to a close almost before it’s begun - 4:15 pm and dark already. Only 3 weeks until the nights get shorter and the days get longer. If you can think of it that way, we’re winning!
