A Dramatic Sky and a Good Bye to Janey Godley

Another day,  another dramatic sunrise. I have to grab them when I can lest I  forget how stunning they can be and just as importantly,  I don’t have to root around for another blip for today.  This was taken from the back door when I raised the blinds before 8am.

Later after I had an intake of energising caffeine, I found my inner domestic goddess finishing off many chores I had been putting off. The final job which had me almost stumped was trying to stuff a down sleeping bag into its  designated stuff bag for Daughter #1. Arthritic fingers don’t do stuffing very well.

After lunch I went along to the Royal Mile to say my farewell to Janey Godley whose cortège was being driven from the Lawnmarket down to St Giles and Cockburn Street before returning to Glasgow for her funeral tomorrow. It was a final visit to her ‘beloved Festival Home’.

Janey Godley was the Scottish comedian whose voice overs on Sturgeon’s daily Covid speeches made so many people laugh. If I thought for one second that I would be that odd lady standing alone waiting outside St Giles, I was so wrong . People were standing 3 deep all the way down the Royal Mile as far as I could see. She certainly got an amazing send off from her East Coast fans. As the cortège  set off again  from St Giles after a brief pause for reflection during which a  choir sang a song  which I could hardly hear and didn’t know but which the crowd knew and sang along with, you could almost hear her saying ‘Frank, get the door! ‘ She will be much missed.
