Defying the weather warnings, we headed down to Liverpool today to see Paul Heaton in concert. We last saw him exactly two years ago in Manchester. That was a bit of a weird one though as the timings were altered to allow a football match to be shown and his (then) co-vocalist Jackie Abbot had pulled out at the last minute due to illness, which took the edge off some of the numbers.
No such issues this year. A great support set from The Zutons got the evening off to a cracking start and then it was time for the main man. A mix of old and new songs from his long career, superbly delivered. A special mention to new co-vocalist, Rihanne Downey, who has a hell of a voice and was full of energy throughout.
A great night out and we don’t even have to drive back to Kendal as we’re staying over because we’re meeting up with some Chester friends for a meal out tomorrow night.
Which is a mixed blessing, as Storm Darragh is due to hit in the middle of the night, carrying on until the following afternoon. We’ve only had a few showers to contend with so far but I suspect it could be a lot more wet and windy tomorrow…
