Living in the Half Light
It never got properly light today . We lived in gloom from the get go with the rain adding a feature to intensify our misery. Storm Darragh may not have visited in person but he certainly knows how to control the weather from a distance. Wind was not present to any great extent and the rain was not of the stair road variety but persistent half light made it cheerless and dreich.
The daughter and I met for coffee and rather than linger afterwards in town I headed homeward to pick up some local shopping before incarcerating myself with the paper and looking out at a waterlogged view of the Meadows.
Having received in the mail yesterday a WiFi disc from BT to accompany my new broadband package and a pamphlet of very short but seemingly simple instructions as to how to set it up, I had no qualms about doing it. Alas after foutering about and getting nowhere, I sought the help of online chat and was put through to a lovely BT technician who walked me through exactly what to do. It seems that whoever wrote the pamphlet left out one or two basic stages which of course seemed obvious after I had been told to do them but which had been omitted in the instructions. The irony is, I don’t even need the disc as I no longer live in a 3 storey house with a flagging broadband signal in the attic. I can get WiFi in all the rooms of the Dower House so will disconnect it. However I am happy to instruct any non tech IT person who might want to connect their BT disc using just the pamphlet instructions.
