Jesus, The Good Shepherd Church

We were up at 6:30. Loading the van in 19°F was not fun. Hubby let me sit everything just outside the garage. We ate a quick bite, hopped in the van, said our pre-travel prayer and pulled out of their driveway at 7:50. My sister and BIL were not far behind us. We met up at Rural King. I needed birdseed and suet. My sister was looking for a certain peppermint bark for our mother. They had none. We had lunch at the restaurant we like in Frostburg. My sister chose one they like not far away. Other than a few rest stops, we drove until we got to this church in Calvert. Co. We decided to attend 4:30 Mass here because we couldn’t get home by our 5:00 liturgy. We had forgotten the pastor from my mother’s parish had been transferred here when they conducted the annual reassignments. Folks ask why we go to Mass every week. Well, first, the third commandment says we must keep holy the Lord’s Day. Second, hubby and I need the weekly Gospels and teaching to keep us focused on our earthly purpose. Today’s homily reminded us that only God can save us. The Deacon used today’s Bible readings to explain what we must do to receive God’s mercy and salvation. Just sitting in the pew every Sunday is certainly not enough. A few examples are to unconditionally love others and live ethically by sharing our time, treasure and talents to help those in need (my synopsis, not his words.) It is easy to get caught up in the busyness of life especially around Christmas and forget what’s most important. We have plenty to think about in the coming weeks. We are heading home and should get there by 6:35. Wishing you some quiet time to ponder who and what are important in your life. Be safe. Thanks for stopping by. “We will never change the world by going to Church. We will only change the world by being the Church.” - Unknown
