Kimono

I had today off, and I have been meaning to go to the Kimono exhibition at the V&A for ages. I had had a plan to go with a friend a while back, but it never happened. Today was therefore the day. I caught the bus to Edinburgh, then the train to Dundee.

I crossed the road from Dundee train station and was in the V&A, the first time I have been in it, though I have wandered around it. The exhibition was fabulous. Interesting history and culture, I thought I would have lunch once I emerged from the exhibition, but the cafe was packed, so I had a look at the panels of the Dundee tapestry, and also at the permanent exhibition of Scottish design.

The cafe had quietened down, and I enjoyed soup and a sandwich while overlooking the Tay. It was very nice, but as my dad would say, the bread wasn’t made today.

I then had a wander around Dundee, and picked up a few Christmas gifts which was a bonus. I also went to the DCA, but the exhibitions there were closed. I then caught my train back to Edinburgh and my bus home.

Tea was chick and easy, then We had a quiet evening. It’s been a really nice day, and I think I need more days like this!!

This 20th century kimono was owned by L’Wren Scott, and was the inspiration for her 2014 design on the left. The extras are Japanese footwear, and a panel from the Dundee tapestry, and a couple of other kimono images.
