Family Tree

Our morning temps dipped into the teens. It was hard to leave my warm snuggly bed. I made four dozen cookies first thing. They will be dessert along with Skylar’s birthday cake tomorrow. Hubby and I are currently high bids on three cakes that the fire department is raffling off. We will freeze a couple for WV if our bids win. I finished dusting; hubby will vacuum. The spare bedrooms are put back together. They become the catch-all areas while we wrap gifts and decorate. Happy to have them clean again. Hubby shopped for me but wasn’t able to find ginger ale for tomorrow’s punch or molasses to put in the bread recipe he is making to take to Kristen’s. He’ll have to go out again tomorrow morning. Lauren says that Isla is really struggling with RSV today. That poor little girl has had more than her share of childhood illnesses. We are really hoping Lauren will keep her little family home tomorrow so they can rest before Christmas Day. We are suggesting that we exchange gift boxes in the morning, take them lunch and FaceTime during present opening time. Hubby and I shared a hook and ladder salad from Firehouse Subs for lunch. I have been simply too busy to cook. This is the tree my sister made us during the COVID epidemic. I added the traditional European Newlyweds Collection she also gave us as a wedding gift 25 years ago. Last night, we had visitors and they serenaded us with “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.” Brooklyn and her friend Leah were dressed in deer costumes. They were adorable. Mancil and Brooklyn finally got their birthday gifts from us. They also delivered their stockings to their house. I am almost entirely ready for tomorrow. All that’s left is to make the veggie and cheese trays. But I cannot hold my eyes open as I type this journal. It’s nap time. Wishing you some restful moments these last few days. Stay safe. Thanks for dropping by.
“The Family Tree
Our family is like the branches On an old but sturdy tree. The leaves resemble people That make up our ancestry. The past has not been easy And it could have made it fall.
But the roots are cemented firmly
For this tree to stand so tall.
As time goes by it's certain
That the leaves will wither and wilt. But new branches of the tree will thrive
On foundations they have built.
Together we are stronger
It isn't hard to see. That every leaf is needed
To make this family tree .” - Unknown
