Sunrise on Blake St

We were up at 5, as Nik had a 6.30 train to catch - Sheffield to London, and then on by Eurostar to Rotterdam. He'll be there for a few days, staying with his mother's extended family (his mother being R's first wife, who left the family permanently when Nik and Niel were very young - a painful and complicated story).
I glimpsed the beginnings of a vivid winter sunrise through the bedroom window, and walked across the park to take a look. As I was taking photos from the top of Blake St - a very steep hill that overlooks the city centre - a man popped out of his house, in dressing-gown and slippers. I thought at first that he might be suspicious about what I was doing; people get nervous about potential burglars casing the joint (though I really don't look like a credible candidate for that...) Anyway, no, what he wanted to talk about was the challenge of capturing sunrise colours with a phone camera. So this turned into a nice, neighhourly chat (though he must have been freezing, the temperature was only about 4 or 5 degrees).
Later Richard drove Erin back to Shepshed, unfortunately having to face a foggy motorway both there and back. I had the much easier task: a bit of light clearing up around the house, and tending to the washing-machine as it processed several loads of towels and bedding.
Now we're thinking of a bit of lazy TV catch-up time: Gavin & Stacey, probably followed by Wallace and Gromit :-)
