Happy New Year!
Here we go with day 1 of 2025. It seems a good omen that this first day had beautiful weather. A crisp minus 16°C, the lightest of light breezes, and the sun shining for those three hours it was above the horizon. The four of us (including Rusty) enjoyed a walk, especially the walk home when that sun was in our face. All the trees were covered in frost and the undisturbed snow was also growing a layer of hoar frost crystals.
Later in the day, we ate a delicious cheese flan that Claire had brought with her. Just after dinner we got a message that the Northern Lights were making an appearance. We took a look outside and the Aurora Borealis was up there but it was rather faint. An hour or so later I was taking something down to the cellar and saw the Aurora brightening up and spreading across the sky. We togged up and took ourselves out into the cold.
It was wonderful! (See the two extras.) Over the years we've seen a good few displays and this was definitely up there with the better ones. Eventually the cold drove us back inside and an hour later it had all faded away! Sometimes you get lucky and on this January 1st it was our turn to get lucky. Long may it last!
