Rain
We woke to lots of rain and several Met Office weather warnings. The brook was already at the point of spilling over the banks. PY watched as a van, we assume from the Environment Agency, pulled up and spent some time pondering whether the flood barriers should be raised. Eventually, they were.
The water level in the Monktonmead Brook is high and rising.
The EA estimates 24 mm has fallen in 10 hours in Ryde.

We thought about it for a while and decided that wading through water on the way to the ferry home might not be the nicest end to the weekend. So, we opted to leave a couple of hours earlier, making the 11:45 a.m. FastCat back to the mainland. We managed to change the train booking, incurring a small admin fee, which will, hopefully, be offset by the delay refund we applied for on the journey we did take as it was late into London.
Today's image was taken on the FastCat heading back towards Portsmouth. It shows a view through the front window out to the rainy day. I like that the window is covered in raindrops, blurring the scene outside. Beyond the window, a portion of the ship's deck, with various equipment, such as winches and ropes, is visible in front of a railing. It's not fun to be working out there today.
The overall atmosphere—grey, overcast, and dreary—summarises much of the day's weather. Before boarding the train, we managed to get coffee and a sandwich at Costa in the Portsmouth FastCat terminal, but the platform journey was gloomy. I listened to Radio 2 All Stars on the way back. The episode featured Mark Goodier, Owain Wyn Evans, and Angela Griffin. It was amusing to learn that Angela continued to work at Burger King when she first started starring on Coronation Street.
Back home, we had a healthy salmon dish—rather than the fish and chips that were suggested at one point. It was a one-tray dish, but the salmon didn't cook properly, and I had to use the microwave to finish it. Then, the decorations came down, and we watched the first episode of Playing Nice on ITV. It was a bit disturbing and quite far-fetched, and this is only the first of four.
