March of the Elephants
Another day of clear skies and sunshine. We decided to postpone more work in the orchard and set off on an eight mile walk from Bishop's Castle that took us along a section of the Shropshire Way, up to the Welsh border at Moat Hill and back via The Kerry Ridgeway. We called in at an exhibition of lino prints by Drusilla Cole and then visited the Town Hall to see the newly installed stained glass panel. Designed by Helen Robinson, with vignettes painted by local people, it celebrates the town's long association with elephants (from Clive of India to the stabling of circus elephants during the Second World War). I particularly liked the steam engine and coaches at the top. The project started in 2020 but was delayed by the Coronavirus pandemic. As well as local landmarks and aspects of town life, the finished panel now includes references to Covid and features the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
Difficult to photograph though as the panel is on a narrow staircase and I couldn't get far enough away so my image is slightly distorted.
