It's a Nanday Friday!

The Nanday parakeets returned! This time it was just two of them, pictured here with a Common Grackle. I was very happy to get a number of photos, albeit through the window. I didn't dare open the doors and go outside to photograph them, fearing I'd scare them away.

About a month ago these birds came to the feeder for the first time, about 10 of them! You can see my blip here. It's not the best photograph, but amazing to see so many of them. They have a distinctive call, which we often hear as they fly overhead.

Nanday Parakeets are from South America but there is a large feral population of them here in the Tampa Bay area. They were sold as cage birds, but being very intelligent, many of them escaped! I feel very lucky to have such an interesting tropical bird visit us!
