January Picnic

Well if it is Saturday morning, it has to be Parkrun.

Just because I am in Dresden and it was -1c, why not? Their course - Prießnitzgrund - is through the wooded valley of a stream (the Prießnitz) which joins the Elbe a couple of kilometres to the south, and I am sure the valley was colder than -1c.

But I ran well and enjoyed the different surroundings and Parkrunning customs. German female Parkrunners do not carry a dainty wee handkerchief to blow their dainty wee noses along the way. They just fire off the snot rockets like the men. The men just find a convenient tree if nature calls along the way.

The hotel person responsible for breakfast control was happy to let me resume my breakfast after my Parkrun. Excellent customer service.

For lunch I took the tram (twice) to visit the suburb of Loschwitz and take a look at the Blaues Wunder bridge across the Elbe. In fact I ate my sandwich on the centre spot of the bridge while enjoying the views downstream.

Then I took the Schwebebahn up the side of the valley for the views from there.

All in all, a great January day out. I even resumed speaking a little German.

My Blip is the gathering at the start of the Parkrun. The pillars of the bridge over the road above are not too scenic, but the rest of the course is a delight.

One Extra is the cable car of the Schwebebahn and the other is the view down from the top - the blue bridge included.
