Happy Memories

I visited my Mother this afternoon, taking with me about six exercise books I had found at her house, earlier this week. They were composition books completed by junior school children she had taught in Wembley Park in the 1950s. She recognised the books and names of the children instantly, and seemed delighted to see the books again. ( Fortunately, she didn't ask me how I had acquired them... )One written exercise had been to describe how to make a pot of tea, in which the lighting of gas hobs and the  whistling of kettles featured.  Another exercise had been to write a dialogue between a pet budgerigar and a wild house sparrow comparing their lives!
There were also copies of poems by E V Rieu which the children had learned to recite. My mum happily recited "Sir Smasham Uppe" for me today, with little need to refer to the printed sheet.
(Incidentally, we know one of the boys became a successful dentist and one of the girls a London lawyer)
