Watching the watchers

Today's the day ........................ to see the dolphins

If you want to be more or less guaranteed that you will see a bottlenose dolphin - choose a day when low tide is around midday - and go to Chanonry Point just as the tide is turning.

Chanonry Point lies at the end of Chanonry Ness, a spit of land extending into the Moray Firth between Fortrose and Rosemarkie. It is around here that the dolphins play and fish in the strong currents caused by the mixing of the waters of the incoming tide and the Rivers Ness and Beauly which feed into the Moray Firth.

We were not disappointed either. We watched a joyful display of noses and fins as several dolphins put on a performance - specially for us. People on a little cruise boat off shore would have had an even better view as some of the dolphins glided effortlessly alongside as the boat sped along.

It was a really life-enriching experience - a truly wonderful sight ......................
