Snow-striped Leannach forest timber

We've travelled to the Trossachs for the weekend.

The main activity of the day was a gentle walk through the Leannach Forest. On our way there we stopped at the Scottish Antiques and Arts Centre at Doune for coffee/tea and a scone, and a wander through the antique shop concessions in the main building. Here we found some thistle crystal glasses that look very like the type that Jon has asked us to hunt for in charity shops. If he instructs to do so, we will drop in to buy them on our way home on Monday. Also prior to our walk, we popped into Mhor in Callander. This is the second best place in Scotland to buy sandwiches for a picnic, at least in my opinion. (The best is the Green Shack on Oban pier.)

The walk itself was lovely. Although it was cold, we were well below the main snow line and it was very still, so we soon warmed up as we trudged along the forest tracks and paths. There was quite a lot of storm damage along our route. In a few places we had to clamber over huge uprooted trees that had fallen across the track, or limbo under snapped-off branches. We only saw three other people and two dogs in the time that we were in the forest. We ate our delicious sandwiches at the half way point of the walk.

We're now settling into a very comfortable room at the Roman Camp hotel. It all feels very cosy with a good supply of hot chocolate and biscuits, a very deep bath, and a huge bed in our bedroom, plus open fires in the public rooms. We're looking forward to fine dining à deux this evening.

I blipped the snow-striped timber in the forest.

Exercise today: walking (14,777 steps).
