Ice

A quick drive out to Eastern Passage this afternoon. It is too icy to walk anywhere except on sidewalks.
The extra is not my photo, It is a photo of the Dartmouth Photo Society display at the Viewpoint Gallery. My photo is the second from the left on the top row.
An interesting 12 hours since last night. Another car tried to come up the hill last night, and she ended up sliding into the front fender of the car that was parked in front of my place. I'm not sure how much damage was done, but the driver did call the police about it. And she waited for them too. While she was waiting another car tried to go up the hill, and he was dumb enough to stop beside her to see if she was alright. He ended up sliding back down the hill. Then another car tried, he got a little further, then managed to get turned around in a driveway and went down the hill facing forward. Eventually the cops showed up, they parked crosswise the street at the bottom of the hill and walked up. They brought a bag of salt with them and spread some on the street. Around 10:15 they came to my door to see if I owned the car that was hit. I told them it belonged to a guy up the street, he couldn't get up the hill. I guess they ran the license plate and found him, the car was gone this morning.
This morning I watched the garbage trucks trying to get up the hill. The first one was picking up the blue recycling bags and tossing them into the bins on the side of the truck. Every stop he made he was rolling back a few feet. And when he went forward the tires were spinning. He made it about 3 houses past me, then he backed down the hill. He tried to make a run for it and get to the top, but that didn't work either. They eventually went up another street and picked up what they missed as they were coming down. Then the truck that picks up the green bin compostibles tried. The truck picks up the green bins and dumps them from the back of the truck, so the guy putting them on the hoist is at the back. A dangerous place to be when the truck slides backwards. He stopped a couple of houses down from me. It was just after 7 am, so it was still fairly dark outside. If it had have been lighter, I would have stepped outside and tried to get a video of these trucks sliding down the hill.
I waited till about 9:30 before I left to go to work this morning. This afternoon when I came home, the roads had started to dry off.
I would like to say a few words to the guy who plows Marilyn's driveway, but she doesn't want me to say anything to him. I told her that I would unblock him and blast him to outer space over the condition of her driveway. Her driveway slopes up, and it was a sheet of ice today from her front walkway to her car, no pavement showing at all. When I stopped in to drop off some cash for her so she can pay her housecleaner, her other friend was there too. I called her to say I was coming over and she told me the top of her driveway was icy but to come to the front door. I pulled in the driveway, got out of the truck and looked down. The whole driveway had a light coating of ice on it. I called her and asked her to send Terry out to get the money, that I was not even going to try to get to the front door. Later I talked to her, and offered to talk to Tommy, but she didn't want me getting involved, she thinks he would retaliate and not show up to do her driveway anymore, then she would have to pay someone else to do it. I talked to another guy this afternoon that is doing snow removal, and I will meet with him so he can give her a quote for snow removal next winter. I have every intention of blasting Tommy in late March, and spreading the word on social media how he is taking advantage of a handicapped senior.
