Making Money
I was awake and up early, 6.30 a.m. It was still dark. Did a few avoidance bits 'n pieces and then started on the job I needed to do which I though would be quick but somehow I vanished down the spreadsheet rabbit hole.
Had short breaks for breakfast and lunch and then before I knew it it was nearly 3 p.m. It was very cloudy outside again and plans to go swimming had clearly been abandoned.
Having finished the calcs and shared the info I watched the rest of SW. It is SO unbelievable and getting even more ridiculous but filled a gap before I went for a swim, though it got a bit windy.
Then over to HK. We were going to be with WH's family for Hokkien New Year. Last time I was involved in this was 2013, after the wedding. #1 son had decided not to come so after WH got home from work we stuffed red packets with RM10 notes and then went to Juiciera for dinner.
The family were meeting up in Subang Jaya and it took almost an hour to get there, though WH was surprised at the route Waze took her. We started in #2 sister's house (in relation to WH's Mum). It was the first time I'd seen her since her husband died suddenly last year. She shares the house with her nephew K, his wife J and their 2 kids.
When we arrived there was a game of Cow going on, 5 cards a bit like Blackjack. They kept wanting me to play but I had no cash and I'm rotten at cards. And being WH's family I had a beer in my hand. Gave out some ang pow and chatted to folk and then we walked round to WH's oldest aunt's house. It used to be the grandmother's but sinc eshe died it has been completely rebuilt and extended, with WH designing, and is beautiful and deceptively big. 'Big Aunt' lives there with her son and his family.
I chatted to KK and her Australian friend, dark red wine and tried not to watch the Premier League match on the TV. I also failed to distribute ang pow as more and more family arrived but it was difficult to isolate the kids. Outside money was being made and folded ready for later.
Luckily it was a beautiful warm night with no rain and half moon behind the clouds. And as we approached midnight preparations were made for the prayers, the gifts to the Gods and the noise to scare away the evil spirits.
