Telford Bridge

Today's the day ...................... to put on a shoe

Back in the summer of last year, there was a lot of renovation work carried out on the Telford Bridge, to shore up the base of some of the side arches.

When the River Dee is very high - and it's still tidal at this point - the excess water flows through the side arches, taking some of the pressure off the main span.  Over the years since the bridge was built in 1806, the force of the water has taken its toll on the stonework at the base of the arches.  So the workmen built a sort of stone shoe around one of them as you can see above.

There's more work to be done, not least on the arches on the other side of the river but that obviously has to wait until there's some more money in the Council coffers ...........................!
