Bonfire Day
It had been arranged that we would have a bonfire today, to burn the prunings from our work session last Sunday. However, in the end only Martin and I could make it. So here's a series of pictures showing firstly the huge pile of cuttings which we had to separate into smaller piles. Then comes the bonfire, and next the salmon steaks we cooked in the embers along with baked potatoes. Finally, Martin is checking the fire is out with only the dying embers left. It was a good day's work. Then, as we were leaving, about 4.30pm, we spotted the barn owl I had seen a couple of weeks ago.
This evening, we attended a very interesting talk about the organisation called ORCA, which monitors and advises on the protection of cetaceans ( whales, dolphins and porpoises), particularly those living in the sea around GB. They use cruise ships and scheduled ferries for their monitoring as well as for educating passengers and boat crews.
