Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

A big walk today along the canal for Arch and I. But we came up a different bridge from last time, so got a bit lost in the roads and didn’t reach the cafe with the warm scone I was headed for… But no worries, I came by the wee tiny one I found last time and had a nice flat white in a small pottery cup, and the most delicious pastry (Extra).

It’s a nice wee cafe with a decent non-screechy playlist. But a woman in the window seat was reading a book to her child (and the entire clientele) FULL OF EXPRESSION, IN A VERY LOUD VOICE. Fortunately, they left when the book was finished, and I noticed a pile of kids books on the windowsill. (I had assumed she’d brought the book with her).

While waiting to cross the road, Archie grabbed a paper bag. Now, if it had had a steak pie in it at some point, there was nothing in it now. But he wanted it so badly that he carried it all the way home. (Extra2). This is good, because he can’t bark at passing dogs, and it’s a deterrent to sniffing every few steps. When we were beside a rubbish bin near home I tried to take it off him. Nope. I had to swap it for a treat. *

When I got home I was so tired I lay down on the sofa and fell fast asleep for a couple of hours, until JR told me it was 4 o’clock and we were due for drinkies at 5pm at Christine’s.

And we certainly woke up during the brief very chilly walk down the road. We had a lovely gin filled evening of posh nibbles and chat and watching Archie trying to ignore Dougal. .
