Current read
Monday
We awoke to clear blue sky but extremely cold temperatures. R had an appointment at the Eye Institute this morning, and I had a rather lazy morning at home. In the afternoon we both went to the fitness center for a swim, where I managed 54:lengths, the most I’ve done for a while, so I was pleased with that.
My blip is showing my current read, The Nightingale a 2015 novel by Kristin Hannah. I’ve read several of her books and really like her as an author. The novel “captures the epic panorama of WWII and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen - the women’s war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love and freedom in German occupied, war-torn France.”
I’m tagging it for Mono Monday, though I know it’s not on theme, however I could stretch the point and say that war time is an ugly time, as is the time we are currently living through in this country come to that!
As I write this, our daughter Laura is just about to take off from Chicago airport, to fly to Manchester, to spend time with family. Unfortunately, she’s unable to stay for my brother Peter’s memorial service which is on March 6th, as she already has something booked at that time. However she will visit with Judy, Peter’s widow, as well as spending time with her granddad. We fly next Sunday, and will share some time together before she flies back.
