Around Ubud
A good start, the shower is hot with good pressure and the breakfast was freshly cooked. Talked to the Chinese owner and a Lithuanian guest. Then I set off, after a couple of false starts on my travels. It was hot and sunny.
First stop was Monkey Forest Sanctuary. It wasn't too busy. My blip is off some of the long tailed macaques grooming one of the monkeys caged as they are disabled and can't live in the wild. This female had had an arm and leg amputated. After a good 2 hours walking round and a watermelon juice I set off for the Peliatan Royal Palace still lived in by a King and his family. Not sure it was worth the trek. On the way I'd walked through a convoy, Military Police cars and SUVs, disgorging a group of what must have been VVIPs. The last vehicle was a military police ambulance.
Then walked back into the centre avoiding broken paving stones, rubbish, building materials, parked vehicles, moving motorbikes. The incessant sound of the bikes hurts my ears.
It was after 1 and I was hot and sticky so stopped for lunch and beer before trekking back along the main street which was mobbed. There was a lot of thunder and rain threatened but I didn't linger.
Back at the GH I lay on the day bed on the balcony with my book. Eventually it rained, a bit. My legs were firing with all the walking and pounding hot streets, over 16k steps.
I had a good long rest, the pool here is too small for a swim and eventually showered and went out. Had a drink and food in Honeymoon Kitchen, seemed apt on what would have been my 47th wedding anniversary. Back to life outside again, then bed and my book. My legs are still dirling which is probably why I've booked a driver for tomorrow.
