Gleam machine...
I slept for six hours straight. I can't remember the last time I did that. And I woke up feeling rested and refreshed. And I haven't felt fatigued during the day. It's a while new experience. I feel like the me I remember from 15 years ago!
This morning David took Alan round to the wound clinic at our local cottage hospital as he bit his finger last night. He's bitten his fingers really badly twice in the past (he has an automatic bite reflex so when his jaw tightens it's almost impossible for him to release the bite, he just has to wait till his jaw muscle relaxes) Thankfully this time it was just a surface scrape and the nurse gave it a wash and put a small dressing on.
I had forgotten that the Aga cleaning man was coming this morning. In the 13 years we've been here I've never had it professionally cleaned. L my cleaning lady does a fantastic job (and we look after it, any spills mopped up immediately) but I wanted a proper deep clean including the ovens.
The man, Martin, arrived at 10am and left just after 1pm and the results are astounding! Look at the sparkle on the inside of the electric oven doors! The two Aga oven doors are exactly the same, as are the ovens. Martin was full of praise saying he couldn't believe the Aga is almost 25 years old as it looks brand new. We inherited it from the previous owners of the house and they also took great care of it. I am delighted with the result and it was great to get it switched on again.
Martin left and Agnes arrived. D collected lunch from our local deli. Their delicious sweet potato and coconut soup and chicken mango mayo sandwiches. Toasted brie and onion chutney panini for Agnes.
Had a lovely afternoon catching up with Agnes. Alan and Gail also popped in late afternoon and it was great to see them. They're not long back from a long holiday to Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia and they head off to South Africa on Monday. We have to grab chances to see them whenever they are home as travel is their passion.
It's been an exciting week as their son S got engaged to his girlfriend H. Alan and Gail were visiting them in London and the proposal wasn't supposed to happen till March but H stumbled upon the jeweller's gift bag so an impromptu proposal was made there and then, with S dropping to one knee in front of the laundry basket! Absolutely perfect as he'd apparently been fretting over when and where to propose, so it all worked out in the end :-)
Alan and Gail left, followed a short while later by Agnes. Still full from our lunch we had toast for supper and the last scones from the Cornish Afternoon Tea gift.
So lovely that the sun was still shining at 6pm.
