The Feast Day of Saint John Joseph of the Cross. Born 15th August 1654, Ischia, Italy. Died 5th March, 1739. Naples, Italy. He was a virtuous Saint and is remembered for his humility and attitude of service.

The weather here has been sunny and cold. It is 12c and feels like 9c according to the Google weather forecast. It is peaceful here and still.

I listened to the Holy Mass from Saint Marie's Cathedral in Sheffield. There was a good sermon and distribution of the ashes as a cross on people's foreheads. The tradition is from the 8th century and possibly earlier than that. In the Old Testament, ashes, in the present time, burnt palm leaves from last year's Palm Crosses, were a sign of repentance for sins.
