Mi Son

We got up early and wandered down to have a look at the market, which was already in full throng (and interesting to manoeuvre through what with all the locals completing their transactions without dismounting from their motorbikes), and to see some of the Old Town whilst it was still shuttered. After breakfast, we borrowed some bicycles from the hotel and cycled a few K – in a light rain - through the rice fields to the beach. In the afternoon we’d booked on a trip out to the fabulously atmospheric Cham ruins at Mi Son, with an excellent guide called Linh who was both entertaining and knowledgeable. There was also plenty of time to just wander amongst the crumbling brickwork and headless statues and take it all in. Even the ‘cultural’ content – a display of Cham music and dancing – was good. On the way back, there was an only slightly unnecessary bit of a boat trip along not the most inspiring stretch of river but they did dish out a ‘snack’ of banh mi that was most welcome by that point in the proceedings. Later on we ate at a very nice vegan place next door to last night’s restaurant only to find that they are part of the same ‘family…’
