26 cobs today
I am having a relatively gentle day. For no other reason than I can.
That notwithstanding I picked most of the remaining sweetcorn this morning. I had already harvested a dozen before today, and there are another eight yet to mature. What a sweet bumper crop.
I delivered some to G when I went to collect milk at lunchtime, and she has just texted to tell me how good they are: already grilled and eaten! I have kept the handful of gnarlier cobs to be dissected and turned into corn chowder tomorrow. A couple are in the fridge for supper and the rest are already stripped of their leaves and bagged in the freezer.
It is the easiest of crops to freeze, just as they are. And they retain both their flavour and texture very well.
This afternoon I am getting an Orkney cheese underway using the milk that came oot the coos at midday. It couldn't be much fresher.
The new cheese press is ready to swing into action tomorrow morning once the curds stop dripping, and have then been salted and mellowed. That will be tomorrow's Blip.
Bean has been working hard on quality control and supervisory duties from behind her eyelids while lying in sunny spots outdoors. Such skill.
