Parkrun and hospital
Today's parkrun was really special and one I shall always remember. My parkrun soulmate, G, is in hospital and I felt quite jittery about being RD without him. I soon realised that I had no need to feel this way. An amazing team of volunteers and friends stepped up. So many asked after him and it made me realise how much folk care, and are happy to step up to give support when needed. My RD at Maldon Prom parkrun started early. Fortunately we had a fantastic volunteer team so that the set-up, organisation of the volunteers, close-down and marshaling all went smoothly. Only one hitch, an ongoing issue with a delivery van which needs to be resolved. Fortunately today it did not cause too big a problem.
The brief was interesting. A lovely runner was celebrating his 100th parkrun, a tourist from Koln had chosen to visit us and I was able to welcome them with 'guten tag', which they appreciated: Then all the runners who were listening (everyone) started laughing; I soon realised why, I had mistakenly added a small, but very significant word to the sentence, 'remember, parkrun is not a run, it is a race'. I am not sure if I will ever live that one down!
After parkrun we met up in the zoo cafe where M kindly bought breakfast for us all. We chatted about Sicily, news and views, parkrun issues and enjoyed a positive conversation about the parkrun problems - coming up with some resolutions.
Then hospital visit to see G. He is better than yesterday and was delighted to receive the card from Cno2 - in the blip. He is getting treatment and his device seems to be resolving the issue for now. Doctor said that he might be allowed home tomorrow with some temporary remedy for 4 weeks. Good news is that he may be able to go to Sicily - yey. Good also that I was able to spend quality time with him today.
